I Fell for it
What started as a quick project to provide the Fell Engine Museum in Featherston with some model Fells for their display has gone nuts. The Fell locomotives are taking over! I literally can’t keep up and am looking at buying another printer just to print fells. I am supposed to be getting ready for the Palmerston North Model Train Show in a few weeks, but the orders keep coming in for Fells. Surely this is a limited market.
The 4 Avonside Fells (H199, H200, H201 and H202) are available now, but the 2 Neilsons (H203 and H204) will be a wee while away. If you’re interested, I can put you on a waiting list.
H199, H200 and H201 are only different in minor details. Cab hatch open or closed and the position of the toolbox on the right side water tank. H202 features the smoke box door open showing some interior detail. The Neilsons, H203 and H204, will have the longer cab, round front windows, and dome shaped steam dome associated with those locos.
So this has got me thinking. Would there be interest in other NZ locos as static display models? An F class, or even a Ka or Ja. Would people want these as much as they want a Fell, or are Fells just special? There certainly is something wonderful about the things.
