Fell Locomotives

These static models were produced with the intention of populating the displays at the Fell Engine Museum in Featherston. The photo below right shows H199 in 1/64 scale on the Cross Creek display. Eventually all 6 variants will be available in most scales. The locos are printed in one piece and are supplied unpainted. A painting service is available at extra cost.

The 6 Fell engines were used to pull trains up the Remutaka Incline, a 1 in 15 gradient, by clamping onto a center rail. This system was in operation for 77 years from 1878 until 1955 when the route was replaced by the 8.93km tunnel under the mountains.

Please note that these models conform to the NZR “3 ft 6” narrow gauge prototype. This means that the 1:64 scale models fit on HO track and the 1:120 scale models fit on N scale track. The HO model will not fit on HO track, and the N scale model will not fit on N track.

These models are not exact replicas and are designed to look good on the museum displays, so please don’t count the rivets. They feature some interior detail, but again it’s not an accurate representation of the real thing as is just designed to look like there is something in there.

These models have some delicate parts and need to be handled with care.
